Two weeks left to nominate for the British Mortgage Awards

Two weeks left to nominate for the British Mortgage Awards

Industry insiders have until 7 May to make an entry.

In the 15 years since The British Mortgage Awards were introduced, the industry has undergone several significant changes, but each year, nominees and winners have demonstrated excellence in the intermediary sector.

This year our finalists will have navigated through unprecedented challenges to our market and to society and will have demonstrated a commitment to the best customer outcomes in such difficult circumstances.

The Mortgage Solutions team believes it is always vitally important to recognise such excellence, no matter the market.

The British Mortgage Awards 2020 will be rescheduled in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. The awards, which had been scheduled to take place on Thursday 9 July, will now be held on Tuesday 15 December at the Park Plaza, Westminster, London.

Jane Benjamin, director of mortgages at Sesame Bankhall Group, said: “The British Mortgage Awards is a celebration of the achievements and success of our mortgage industry, which in 2020 has never been so important.

Each and every one of us can take pride in the resilience of our mortgage market, businesses, colleagues and friends. PMS and Sesame look forward to celebrating with our exceptional industry leaders on 15 December.”

John Cupis, mortgage director at Openwork, said: “The BMAs acknowledge the best of individual human endeavour in our marketplace.

Never before has it been more important to recognise the human achievements of last year, but also how we have adapted to the environment in which we now find ourselves to ensure the mortgage market thrives for customers in a new world.”

British Mortgage Awards 2020 rescheduled to December

The change has been made to accommodate the continued uncertainty around the Covid-19 pandemic and ensure the welfare and safety of all guests, sponsors, suppliers and colleagues.

It is hoped that by December movement restrictions will be lifted and the industry will be able to come together and celebrate the stand out achievements of the most deserving individuals in the UK mortgage industry who truly went beyond expectation and demonstrated excellence in their respective roles.

Nominations and judging

The nominations process will remain open and the deadline to vote for someone will be the 7 May 2020.

Judging will take place remotely on the 10 and 11 June with all finalists interviewed over the phone, to give each one the opportunity to bring to life the achievements they have submitted as part of their testimonial.

Interviews also allow finalists to articulate their achievements in the last 12 months both prior to the Covid-19 epidemic and their contributions to positive client outcomes since the market has been adversely affected.

Mortgage Solutions managing director Iain Cartlidge, said: “It is very difficult to predict when society or our market will return to any kind of normality and we want to be confident that we will be delivering this important event at a time that is both appropriate and valuable to all those involved.

“We remain committed to providing a platform to showcase those deserving individuals who continue to deliver exceptional outcomes in extraordinary circumstances and we believe that by moving the event to December we will be in a position to bring the industry together to recognise our individual and collective resilience.”

All table and sponsorship bookings will be carried forward to the new date.

Welfare top priority

The decision was taken by the Mortgage Solutions team following government advice to avoid non-essential contact with others and unnecessary travel.

The welfare and safety of all guests, sponsors, suppliers and colleagues is our top priority and with the uncertainty around how this situation will evolve over the coming weeks, we feel that this is the most appropriate course of action in the current climate.

Mortgage Solutions managing director Iain Cartlidge, said: “This is the 15th year of the British Mortgage Awards and in each year, every finalist has shown a willingness to raise the bar and excel in their own role, they embrace change and innovate, or adapt and seize the opportunity that our market inevitably creates.

“Despite the unprecedented situation our society currently faces, we think it appropriate that those people who have driven the market forward in the last 12 months should have their deserving moment in the spotlight, which is why we were determined to reschedule this important event.

“We are very much looking forward to bringing the industry together and welcoming you all to the event on 3 September.”

The deadline to nominate is Friday 3 May with those shortlisted being assessed by a panel of respected industry judges.

Winners will be announced at a glittering gala dinner on 4 July at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.

A full list of categories is available below. Shortlists are drawn up in each category based on the number and spread of nominations for a particular individual.

A weighting system is applied to the overall number of nominations cast to ensure greater emphasis is placed on the relevant nominations cast from outside the nominees’ own business, so campaigning really counts.
