To mark this year’s South Asian Heritage Month, Mortgage Solutions is featuring individuals from across the financial services sector to celebrate their background.

South Asian Heritage Month (18 July to 17 August) was launched in 2020 to commemorate the people and cultures, and their impact on the UK. This year’s theme is ‘Roots to Routes’, paying homage to the journeys, connections and heritage that make people who they are.

Here, we feature Sam Moodley, adviser at Gateway Financial Consulting.

How did you get into financial services?

I started my career at a bank and found a natural progression into helping clients with their financial planning.

Did you always want to work in the sector?

It wasn’t my initial plan, as I started off training to be a chartered accountant. However, I discovered a real enjoyment in helping people achieve their financial goals and plan for their future.

What about your background or culture do you think helped shape your career and drive?

My background and culture instilled in me a great deal of discipline, care, and humility, which have definitely shaped my career and drive.

Why is it important to celebrate your heritage?

Culture and heritage provide a path to follow and offer guidance for the future.

How does it make you feel to see other South Asians and people from minority backgrounds thrive and succeed in financial services?

It makes me feel incredibly proud and professional to witness their success.
