NatWest has confirmed it is working on APIs (application programming interfaces) for many different aspects of the mortgage process, but warned brokers they cannot be produced instantly.

Speaking on Mortgage Solutions Television, the lender said there was a huge opportunity to deliver process improvements and reduce errors through APIs, but it would take time.

“We’ve got lots in development at the moment, all I’ll say is watch this space in terms of APIs that will be coming out from us,” said Luke Christodoulides, senior corporate account manager at NatWest.

“But I think you’re right, I think the opportunity that they have to deliver will be huge for the market but they are not there yet.

“Everybody thinks it should be there instantly and it’s not, there’s a lot of development work that needs to go into it to produce those APIs and get them launched out to market.”
