MS Poll result: 65% of brokers say need help to choose network
Following Stonebridge Group’s claim that networks’ services and costs lack transparency, 65% of brokers they would use a comparison website to decide which network to join.

A further 15% said they would not use a comparison website, while 20% said they were happy where they were.

Fahim Antoniades, group director at Mortgage Centre IFA, said that changing networks can be a very long and difficult process.

He said: “Moving from one network to another is about as difficult as changing bank accounts. It’s not so hard getting into a network, it’s just very time consuming with the approval process and ensuring that everyone abides by the Financial Services Authority’s (FSA) standards.”

“When brokers change networks they usually look for certain things including how large a network’s panel is, and whether it has enough buying power.

“They’re also after a network that is likely to offer exclusives to its members.”

Which-Network.com is one website that brokers have been using to decide which networks to choose if they remain undecided.

Gary Watts, network consultant, said: “We rate all the networks on our database on financial stability and offer a free service where brokers can get in touch and tell us what network they’d prefer moving to, and we offer them suggestions.

“For brokers who remain undecided, we have loads of IFAs who post comments on to our website giving us their insight on networks that they have been a part of, or have joined.”
