AMI launches mortgage sector mentoring scheme
The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) will be launching a mentoring scheme for people in the mortgage sector.

Announcing the launch on 17 January, International Mentoring Day, the cross-sector initiative includes the work of the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA) and volunteers within the profession.

The scheme will bring aspiring and existing mortgage professionals together for one-to-one and reverse mentoring opportunities.

Mentorship was one of the recommendations made in the 2021 AMI Viewpoint on diversity, inclusion and equity in the mortgage sector to improve barriers towards career progression.

Since the Viewpoint, the association has launched a website with resources for businesses in the sector on how to be more inclusive and diverse. The association is also working on a set of standards to which firms should adhere.

AMI: Creating open minds…is core to mentoring

Robert Sinclair (pictured), chief executive of AMI, said: “Creating open minds, wider opportunities and building confidence is a core part of any mentoring programme. Identifying how you can find the right roles and develop is at the heart of a fulfilling work experience.

“AMI through its WorkinginMortgages.org.uk website and soon to be launched mentoring programme hopes to build new pathways for a wider group of people to see our sector as a great place to work.”
