The Association of Short-Term Lenders (ASTL) has revealed the agenda for its annual conference, which includes the launch of industry-first education programme and a white paper on bridging.

The conference includes eight sessions covering topics such as the recovery of the short-term lending sector, a lender’s view on the market, outlook of the property market and future make-up of the high street.

The event takes place in RSA House in central London and has speakers from OneSavings Bank, Savills, Financial Intermediary and Broker Association (FIBA) and the London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF).

The association added that at the conference it would introduce its Benson Hersch Memorial Bursary, which will be awarded to select individuals working for lender members of the ASTL.

It will be used to train and develop individuals who “demonstrate an appetite to promote the interests of the short-term mortgage lending community and a commitment to the values of transparency and customer-focus”.

“Best conference yet”

Vic Jannels (pictured), CEO of the ASTL, said that the conference this year promised to be its “best conference yet” with a packed agenda with respected expert speakers and launch of key initiatives.

These includes its first ongoing education programme for the commercial finance industry, ASTL’s first ever white paper and the Benson Hersch Memorial Bursary.

Jannels said that Hersch was the “driving force” behind the ASTL and had taken the “reins of the membership and transformed it into an association that was more representative of the industry, with a clear purpose to improve standards and encourage sustainable growth of the sector”.

“So, it is only right that we honour his memory in a way that supports those individuals who are also striving to encourage high standards and the sustainable growth of the sector,” he added.

Places at the conference are limited, with priority given to members and associate members of ASTL, but there are available places for bridging professionals.
