After four years of awareness, collaboration, and cultural progress, the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) is now entering its most ambitious chapter yet.

Following its establishment as an independent not-for-profit foundation, the MIMHC will use 2026 to drive measurable change across the mortgage and property finance sector through a practical, evidence-based action plan.

This new phase – titled ‘Foundation Focus’ – turns words into action, building healthier workplaces, stronger leaders, and a more connected industry community.

1. Promoting healthier balance

Goal: Encourage realistic working patterns, promote rest, and help the industry recharge.

The flagship initiative here will be the ‘Switch Off Pledge’, inviting networks, lenders, and firms to commit to creating healthier boundaries around after-hours communication. Participating organisations will be recognised publicly for championing a more balanced and sustainable working culture across the mortgage industry.

2. Empowering confident leadership

Goal: Equip leaders to spot early signs of poor mental health and engage in supportive, constructive conversations.

The MIMHC will deliver the ‘Leaders Who Listen’ workshop series – a practical, in-person training programme that helps managers and business owners build confidence, empathy, and the skills to have meaningful mental health conversations.

3. Embedding wellbeing in business

Goal: Help firms move beyond awareness into measurable, strategic wellbeing practice.

Through the ‘Wellbeing in Action’ roadshow series, the MIMHC will showcase firms that have successfully integrated wellbeing into business performance. These sessions will inspire others to adopt practical frameworks that support their people while strengthening culture and commercial outcomes.

4. Building stronger connections

Goal: Strengthen community, collaboration, and peer support across the mortgage sector.

The much-loved ‘Walk and Talk’ will continue as the MIMHC’s flagship annual event, taking place each May during Mental Health Awareness Week. In addition, the Annual MIMHC Lunch will bring together partners and wellbeing ambassadors to celebrate collaboration, share stories, and raise funds for future initiatives.

5. Strengthening personal resilience

Goal: Equip individuals to manage pressure, sustain wellbeing, and perform at their best.

The MIMHC will roll out ‘Recharge & Resilience’ workshops – interactive sessions blending practical psychology and physical wellbeing strategies to help professionals maintain energy, focus, and balance in demanding roles.

6. Sustaining long-term impact

Goal: Build financial sustainability to support the MIMHC’s continued growth and reach.

The foundation will secure grants and pledge partnerships both inside and outside the mortgage sector. Our flagship Annual MIMHC Lunch will remain central to fundraising efforts, while Partnership Pathways will allow networks and lenders to sponsor initiatives such as Walk and Talk or wellbeing workshops. Each year will culminate in an Impact Report, transparently showing how funds were used and the difference achieved across the industry.

From words to measurable change

The industry’s goodwill has always been strong – but now, as a foundation, we’re equipped to turn that goodwill into meaningful action. Foundation Focus is about equipping every firm, leader, and individual with practical tools that make a lasting difference.

By combining data, education, collaboration, and funding, the MIMHC’s 2026 plan will create a mortgage industry that doesn’t just talk about mental health – it actively builds it into the way we work, lead, and live.
