Homeowners are finding themselves out of pocket when moving home according to research from Virgin one. The company asked people how much they had spent on unforeseen purchases and home improvements in the first few months of owning their new home. Eight out of 10 had surprise costs and nearly a third had spent between £500 and £2000 more than expected. James Duffell, head of PR at Virgin One said: ‘Setting a budget and sticking to it is a sensible plan, but usually an unreasonable one. It’s understandable for house hunters to underestimate costly repairs.’
