Three-quarters of further advances are now being taken for home improvements, according to UCB Home Loans.
The specialist lender, which has experienced a third more advances being taken since the beginning of the year, said the increase in the popularity of home improvement loans has been fuelled by low interest rates encouraging more people to buy homes cheaply and increase their value through home improvements. The lender added that rising house prices can also put larger properties out of the reach of many borrowers, so extending a property may prove to be a more affordable option.
