Intermediaries are not using all the online marketing tools available to them, despite rising mortgage web searches, said the Mortgage Event speaker Rob Davies.

The marketing communications specialist for One on One Marketing urged brokers to do more marketing online to improve their business volumes, using simple measures such as enhancing their online directory, improving their search engine optimisation and using the media to enhance their profile.

Davies said: “Going online is the first port of call for many consumers. Therefore, brokers need to use this tool to their advantage.

“While the level of searches for mortgages is getting better, mortgages are still not well represented online, and with consumers looking for expert advice, the experts need to deliver it effectively with good marketing.”

He highlighted that, according to Foolproof.com, over 20% of mortgage searches are mis-spelt, giving intermediaries an opportunity to enhance their services through accurate keyword searches via Google.

“It is important to know that effective marketing doesn’t have to be costly. One simple measure that every broker can take is by joining an online directory to boost their visibility online,” Davis said.

He added: “Other measures include designing an easy-to-navigate website, which provides the consumer with valuable information, and using the media to enhance their status in the industry.”
