Stephen Gay will take up his role as the new director general of AIFA on 1 December, replacing Chris Cummings.

Currently working an agreed notice period with Aviva, Gay will also become director general of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) and the Association of Finance Brokers (AFB)

Gay said: “Being closely involved in the intermediary profession I understand the many regulatory and economic pressures that members currently face.

“Members need the assertive representation they receive from AIFA, AMI and AFB.

“I am keen to build on this and ensure the interests of members are recognised where it counts.”

Gay has more than 25 years’ experience of the life and pensions market and intermediary distribution and has most recently been director of distribution development at Aviva.

While at the firm, he has launched the industry’s first financial adviser academy and led its work around the RDR.
