MPs to take part in IFA ‘work experience’
A campaign by the Forum of Private Business to encourage MPs to undertake work experience in their constituencies has been backed by the Prime Minister and financial advisers.

David Cameron said the ‘Business Buddy’ scheme would help MPs to understand the problems faced by small businesses.

“The Coalition government is committed to making the coming decade the most entrepreneurial and dynamic in Britain’s history”, he said.

“To make this a reality, we need to understand the real issues that small businesses face on a day-to-day basis and use that information to help ensure that entrepreneurs are given every opportunity to successfully start and grow their businesses.”

The Forum, which also offers support to IFAs, is especially keen to organise visits to businesses providing financial services.

In July, MP Greg Barker visited Bexhill-On-Sea-based Accounting and Tax Works Ltd.

Partner Chris Robertson told Mortgage Solutions sister title IFAonline the scheme was a great way for advisers to voice their concerns about FSA regulation.

“Mr Barker was very interested in the problems that accountants and advisers are facing”, he said.

“I had a specific problem with a client, which he rectified soon afterwards. It just goes to show that getting in touch with your local MP is always worthwhile.”

IFAs interested in the scheme should email getbritaintrading@fpb.org, or visit the Forum’s website.
