Century and Scottish Building Society complete merger
The merger of Century Building Society and Scottish Building Society has been completed today.

The deal, which was announced last August, was given formal approval by the FSA at the start of the year and the merger has now been officially completed.

The new enlarged society will have around 40,000 members and has taken the Scottish Building Society name and branding. It will operated from six branches across Scotland.

Its last yearly report indicated that Century had assets of £25m, around 3,500 members and served less than 250 borrowers, making it the smallest mutual in the country.

The deal leaves the Northern Ireland-based City of Derry Building Society as the smallest in the UK.
