Broker feedback is needed to improve lender technology – Legal and General Mortgage Club
Brokers need to continually give lenders feedback on technology to maintain efficiency, it has been said in a video debate.

Speaking on Mortgage Solutions TV in association with Skipton Building Society, Clare Beardmore, head of broker and propositions at Legal and General Mortgage Club said: “Good tech needs to be delivered, feedback passed in, tweaked and version two delivered.”

Charlotte Harrison, head of mortgage products at Skipton Building Society, said the mutual was “investing heavily” in its technology and processes to make work easier for both its internal staff and intermediary partners.

She added: “If stuff’s not working and it’s not adding value, then tell us. That needs to be an absolutely collaborative approach in making that better and improving that experience.”

Disjoined industry

Paul Fenn, director of business development at Skipton Building Society, said broker processes and lender development did not always align.

He noted that the lender had spent time improving its electronic income and ID verification to allow some borrowers to apply without sending any documentation.

However, the feedback from brokers suggested this made no difference to their work.

Fenn said: “A lot of feedback we got from brokers was ‘we’ve got to do that anyway because we’re expected to. Its part of our oversight and governance process.’

“So collaboration is key because if the clubs and networks aren’t progressing in terms of their oversight and compliance expectations, then we’re disjoined. There’s a mismatch.”

Beardmore also said the speed of change and rate of adoption differed from lender to lender as some businesses had the budget and the appetite to develop, while others did not.

She added: “Because of that there’s some inconsistency.”
