Rising Star: Adele Duffy, Smoove
This week, Mortgage Solutions is speaking with Adele Duffy, senior account manager at Smoove.

What does your role entail and how long have you been doing it?

I have been with Smoove three years. My role as a senior account manager is to assist mortgages intermediaries who use our platform in creating quotes and supporting them throughout the conveyancing journey.

In addition, I support and guide the account managers in my team for them to achieve their targets.

What attracted you to working in the mortgage/property/finance sector?

That every day is different – the mortgage work consistently changes every day and you never know what challenge will present itself.

What were you doing in the five years before starting here?

Before I joined Smoove, I was an emergency call handler for the ambulance service and then sold cars as a telephone outbound communicator.

What personal talent/skill is most valuable in doing your job?

Multitasking – being able to prioritise tasks to get things done.

What personal talent/skill would you most like to improve on?

Being able to say no.

How has the pandemic changed the way you approach your job?

Remote working has been a life saver for me as it has given me a great work-life balance.

What is the most interesting/memorable property deal/case you’ve been involved in?

A portfolio of 12 buy-to-let properties. All were limited companies and needed name changes. It was a challenge to get quoted but loved that we could accommodate the mortgage adviser.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

Being promoted to head of sales – I’m always wanting to improve so I aim high.

If present-day you could go back in time and tell yourself something five years ago, what would it be?

Don’t stress, you can only control what you can control (as well as tell myself when the stamp duty holiday was so I could book that off).

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve tackled so far in your career?

The stamp duty holiday.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

To be able to clone myself so I can get work done quicker.

And finally, what’s the strangest question you’ve ever been asked?

If I could be any cereal, what would it be?
