World Cup 2010 Blog – Comfort break or drumming up new business?

We are half way through the World Cup – 32 matches have been played, 67 goals scored and the final round of group games starts today. So naturally the question on everyone’s lips is, where now for Pavlos Joseph?

It’s been a tough couple of years in the mortgage industry, but the broker from South London took extreme measures to drum up business on Friday night when he found his way into the England team’s dressing room.

Joseph claims he was looking for the toilet and took a wrong turn, but could it be that he spotted an opportunity to advise the players on unemployment protection following their dismal performance?

Either way, it proved to be a double edged sword for Joseph whose foray into the England dressing room did at least earn him an income (he sold his story to a newspaper) but may also earn him some time in a South African prison.

It’s unlikely to become a recognised source of income diversification.

Joseph’s antics did at least distract our attention from what happened on the pitch on Friday, but fortunately there was no need for mortgage intermediary intervention to brighten proceedings yesterday as Portugal and Spain reminded us what football can look like when it’s played properly. The nine goals they scored between them also meant a hatful of Fantasy World Cup points so remember to log on to find out how your team is performing.

And be careful not to take a wrong turn next time you are looking for a toilet – you never know where you might end up.
