Royal London has made changes to its pre-sale underwriting tool to broaden the number of medical conditions covered from 60 to more than 3,600.
The mutual said the change would create a “more flexible customer journey” while making its easier and quicker for advisers to get an idea of underwriting terms.
Advisers can still use the existing function to choose from the 60 most commonly disclosed medical conditions, but the new function allows this to be widened depending on the client’s requirements and look across 3,633 medical conditions instead to get a decision.
Royal London said it would continue to refine the data collected so the tool could be improved over time.
Craig Paterson, chief underwriter at Royal London, said: “We are always looking at ways we can improve the underwriting service we offer advisers, and we believe this enhancement will mean they will be able to offer their clients a much clearer view of the likely underwriting decision, and any underwriting requirements that may be needed.
“We understand conversations on health conditions can be sensitive and by improving our pre-sale journey we hope these conversations will become easier.”
