Will the real Grant Shapps please stand up?
He's an "honest-to-god housing minister" but a "homeboy by nature" - welcome to Grant Shapps' fake Twitter feed.

At least, that’s who @grantmeshelter, the fake Minister of State for Housing and Local Government, has claimed to be.

Tweets from the spoof account, which sports a photo of the real housing minister, have included comments on a variety of housing issues, all written in a convincing Jamaican accent.

Asked if he had any regrets about the NewBuy scheme, “Grant” replied via Twitter to Mortgage Solutions: “Apart from mass default, nothing can go wrong. Save [sic] as houses dear!!!”

He added: “And remember, a mortgage isn’t a millstone, it’s a charm round yr neck – #getintheremyson !!”

While as of yet unrecognised by the political establishment, “Grant ” has continued to tweet undeterred.

On April 7 he encouraged his followers to join in a cheer that began: “‘We all follow Gra-ant Shapps!’ – echo! – ‘he puts housing on the map'”.

In January, the month the account launched, “Grant” urged other Twitter users to be more positive about economic issues as a whole: “LET’S TURN #THISCOUNTRY ‘ROUND MOFOS!!!”

The Twitter feed has also touched on other aspects of @Grantmeshelter’s life, which apparently include strolling around his estate and poking fun at “plebs” and the Liberal Democrats.

@Grantmeshelter is the latest in a number of Twitter accounts parodying political figures.
