Financial advice swindler pays back just £5
A financial adviser who tricked a widow out of more than £100,000 to start a mortgage business has been ordered to pay back £5.

Anthony Gough, 57, who worked for New Forest Financial Management in Hampshire persuaded Elizabeth Ibaldi soon after her husband’s death to switch her investment to a company called F&C on the basis it would bring her a better return.

In fact, the money went into the pockets of Gough, who spent £70,000 paying off debts and invested the rest in a mortgage business called Mortgage Wizard.

A court sentenced Gough to 32 months in jail in May 2012 and his former employers compensated his victim. However, of the £105,000 he had stolen, The Daily Echo reported he has now been asked to pay the firm back a mere £5.

According to Prosecutor Ximena Jones, a thorough investigation had been launched into his finances but it was not possible to release equity from the property he owned with his wife.
