Barclays set to announce former JP Morgan banker as chief exec
Barclays is readying itself to name former JP Morgan banker James Staley as the bank’s new chief executive, according to a report on BBC News.

If appointed Staley, who currently works at Blue Mountain Capital Management in the US, will replace former chief executive Antony Jenkins who was fired in July following a dispute with board members.

Staley’s role at Barclays has been confirmed by the bank’s board members, sources have told the BBC.

Jenkins was ousted from Barclays earlier this year after a disagreement with the board over his strategy for the bank’s troubled investment arm and the pace of cost cutting throughout the business. Following Bob Diamond’s resignation in 2012 after the bank was fined for its involvement in the Libor rate rigging scale, Jenkins was appointed to clean up the bank’s image and intended to steer the bank’s strategic focus towards retail banking.

According to a tweet by the BBC’s business editor Kamal Ahmad, Barclays will keep its investment focus once Staley is fully appointed.

The BBC said the board of Barclays has now agreed on Staley’s appointment and is awaiting regulatory approval before making an official announcement.
