Land Registry employees to take ‘targeted strike action’ for five days next week
Land Registry employees who are members of The Public and Commercial Services Union (PSC) will strike from 27 February for five days.

In an update the HM Land Registry said that “targeted strike action” will take place during the week commencing 27 February, which would affect union members in customer service teams, including Customer Support Centre (CSC).

The government body said that core services, including “all time-critical services” needed for property transactions, would proceed as normal.

This included pre-completion searches, the majority of which are automated, and urgent applications have been expedited, according to the HM Land Registry.

HM Land Registry said to contact them if they were affected and “mitigation action” would be taken to “keep disruption to a minimum”. However, it did warn that there could be longer call waiting times and reduced call hours.

It added that it intended to keep phone lines open during scheduled opening hours, but this might need to be reduced.

The contact HM Land Registry page will be updated to reflect the revised opening hours.

The CSC will operate as normal this week and this Friday will be open until 5pm.

Members of the PCS Union voted in favour for strikes in November last year calling for a 10 per cent pay rise, pensions justice, job security and no cuts to redundancy terms.

HM Land Registry at the time said it would prioritise urgent property transactions and make use of automated pre-completion searches to reduce the impact of strikes.

The PCS Union also called for a one-day strike on 1 February earlier this year, which includes Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), The Leaseholder Advisory Service and Land Registry.
