Nearly 80% of Mortgage Solutions readers have backed the CML’s calls for the FSA to do another consultation on its responsible lending proposals in the Mortgage Market Review (MMR).

The CML has demanded a “re-consultation” should take place, saying a full impact analysis was missing from the original proposals and the government needs to clarify what it wants before the MMR consultation progresses.

The latest Mortgage Solutions poll has revealed that 79% of readers agree with the CML’s stance.

However, 18% do not think such a move is necessary, while a further 3% are unsure.

Andrew Frankish, managing director of Mortgage Talk, said: “I do think the FSA needs to rethink its proposals and that the broking industry needs to come together as one voice on this.

“I know that AMI is doing a lot of work on this behind the scenes and brokers need to take confidence that AMI is battling for us and the FSA is not going unchallenged.

“Individual brokers with concerns should also make sure to channel them to AMI, as it will have more effect than on their own, and help to make sure that nothing happens that has a serious effect on the market.”

This week’s Mortgage Solutions poll asks what the best part about attending industry events, such as the Mortgage Business Expo and the Big Debate is.
