Can Help to Buy 2 derail the buy-to-let market?
Let’s hope the Help to Buy does derail the BTL market in the UK as you cannot have FTBs competing with BTL investors without causing an inflationary mortgage boom which helped blow the world banking system apart in 2008.
I have been writing for the past three years to the Prime Minister, Chancellor and housing minister to help FTBs which they have done however at the same time I have advised them that they must limit BTL investing by not allowing mortgage interest to be offset against rental income in order not to cause another housing bubble.
For BTL investors it is a good time to sell as further restrictions on this sector are on their way.

Hmmm, at least they seem to be getting some joy as no one I have spoken to has managed to get one past Halifax’s new 95% score card, with BDMs citing system issues?

I have just had a case where the client has only property investments and is in a right pickle as a result. She needs to raise money in a hurry – fat chance at anything approaching reasonable cost. You don’t get this with equity investing – or with a decent wodge of cash in the bank.

71% confused about Help to Buy
I posted last week about the confusion amongst the general public. I have taken even more calls this week and confusion still reigns!
Most of the public seem to think that both schemes offer an equity loan and that the only difference is that HTB1 is for New Build and HTB2 is for any property. I am basically a free HTB advice line at the moment…
