The weakness in the equity market has driven fixed interest rates to record lows, according to Laurence Sanders, economist at Bristol & West.

Writing in The Expert, the lender’s monthly economic outlook, he claimed the Bank of England will be reluctant to reduce base rates further, even if the US reduces its own rate on 24 September, although he believes the US will hold the present rate. Overall, the outlook for the housing market remains positive and annual rate of house price inflation will ease to 15% by the year-end.
