Ricky Okey, managing director of Abbey for Intermediaries (AfI), is to leave parent company Santander.

However, it is not yet known where Okey, who was appointed to the role of managing director of AfI in 2005, will be moving to.

António Lorenzo, executive director at Santander UK, said: “We would thank Ricky for the contribution he has made in making AfI one of the leading players in the intermediary space and for his part in ensuring the integration of Abbey and A&L’s Intermediary teams has progressed well. We are sorry to see him leave and wish him well in his future career.”

Alan Mathewson has been appointed to a newly-created role of managing director of Santander Private Banking UK (onshore and offshore businesses) and AfI.

Mathewson, who will take up the role on May 1, will report jointly to Santander’s global head of asset management and private banking, Javier Marín, and to UK executive director, Antonio Lorenzo.

In respect of his AfI responsibilities, Mathewson will report solely to Antonio Lorenzo.

Mathewson said: “Santander Private Banking gives us a great foothold in a strategically important but underdeveloped segment of the market, whilst AfI provides us the opportunity to continue to consolidate our market leading position in mortgages and develop cross-sales into the intermediary sector.”

Okey’s departure follows the departure of Nici Audhlam-Gardiner from her role as director of mortgages for Santander UK in January to take up a role as director of banking.

Clive Kornitzer also moved from his role as chief operating officer at AfI in January to take up a new role in the business to develop a proposition for affluent consumers.

More to follow…………….
