The average house price in Conservative constituencies trumps Labour controlled areas by 53%, according to Zoopla.co.uk.

Research showed that the average house price of a Tory-held seat was £257,500, followed by Lib Dem constituencies at £228,880, while Labour trailed in third at £168,112.

House prices in areas controlled by Labour are almost 20% below the national average.

The Zoopla.co.uk survey revealed that Lib Dem seats have had the highest growth in property prices over the last 13 years since Labour came to power, growing by 190%, compared to 179% in Tory areas and 177% in Labour regions.

The average property value of Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s seat of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath is among the lowest in the UK at £120,910, well below the national average of just over £209,000. This compares to David Cameron’s Witney seat averaging £289,686 and Nick Clegg’s Sheffield Hallam constituency averaging £219,136.

Nevertheless, the Conservative and Labour parties tie when it comes to the total current value of residential property in the areas that each party controls, at £1.9tr. This is despite Labour recording 11.7m homes in its areas compared to 7.2m homes in Conservative seats.

Lib Dems have 2.2m homes across their seats totalling £0.5tr in value.

Nicholas Leeming, spokesperson for Zoopla.co.uk, said: “The election outcome may be unclear for now, but it is clear that the Tories rule in the property stakes with average property values in their constituencies significantly above those in Labour controlled areas. Interestingly, despite the fact that there are far fewer homes in areas under their control today, the Tories still have an equal share of the UK’s property wealth, due largely to their strong presence in wealthy rural areas and the south east of England in particular.”
