Mortgage industry unprepared for Legal Services Act
The mortgage industry isn’t ready to take advantage of the forthcoming Legal Services Act as it is unaware of the opportunities it presents, said a legal firm.

UK law firm Goldsmith Williams has announced it plans to host an event to explore how the mortgage sector can maximise the potential of new Alternative Business Structures (ABS), introduced as a result of the Act.

ABS, which comes into force on 6 October 2011, will allow businesses outside the legal sector to offer a full range of legal services under their own brand for the first time.

The Legal Services Act – Taking the law into your own hands, takes place in London on 27 June 2011, supported by media partner Mortgage Solutions.

Professor Stephen Mayson, director of the Legal Services Institute is the keynote speaker with the event promising a range of experts and networking to explore the opportunities presented by the Legal Services Act.

Eddie Goldsmith, partner at Goldsmith Williams, said: “This legislation will herald the biggest change in legal services delivery in a generation and though the legal industry is getting to grips with it, we believe that businesses outside the sector could miss out on the opportunities it presents.

“Alternative Business Structures will allow forward-thinking businesses to diversify their offerings, providing the launch pad for growth and safeguarding futures.

“Our event will provide a great opportunity for businesses to understand how they can be some of the first to capitalise on the new legislation and the steps to take towards ABS.”

The event takes place at Holiday Inn in Regents Park, London and starts at 9.30am on 27 June 2011.

Tickets are priced at £159, which includes lunch and refreshments. For more information or to book tickets please visit www.goldsmithwilliams.co.uk or telephone 0845 373 6225.
