Connells expands mortgage reach with estate agency buy out
Connells estate agency has extended its mortgage service provision by acquiring Burchell Edwards, an independent network of 16 estate agency branches in the Midlands.

The Burchell Edwards network provides residential sales, lettings, conveyancing and mortgage advice across Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Birmingham, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

A spokesman for Connells said: “We are offering in-house advice. As part of our service, consumers do not have to be buying through Connells or the Burchell Edwards brand, they can be buying through other agents. Those consumers can still receive mortgage advice from us.”

Through the acquisition, Connells will see its own branch network increase to 487 offices, as well as taking ownership of Burchell Edwards’ conveyancing firm Be Legal.

“This acquisition of an already successful and profitable independent estate agency will reinforce Connells’ strength in the Midlands housing market,” said Stuart Flavell, chief executive of Connells.

“Burchell Edwards will retain its existing trading names, but benefit from our mortgage provision and support systems, both of which will allow us to target a wider pool of buyers on behalf of our lender partners.”

Flavell added that Connells is keen to expand further and is seeking future acquisitions of estate agency and lettings businesses.
