Sants knighthood petition receives 1,000+ signatures
An online petition calling for Hector Sants' nomination for a knighthood to be withdrawn has received more than 1,000 signatures.

‘Roger C’ set up the community petition on Avaaz.org on Thursday, arguing Sants is not worthy of the honour as he, as chief executive of the Financial Services Authority, failed to respond adequately to the financial crisis or maintain a fair regulatory system.

The e-petition had received 1,042 signatures as of 7:30am on Friday.

“I am shocked that the government has nominated Hector Sants for a knighthood. Along with many other politicians, bankers and regulators, he was, according to MPs, ‘asleep at the wheel’ and in part responsible for the financial crisis that ordinary people are having to pay for.

“It is wrong that he and others are rewarded for failing the people, and we call for: 1. His name to be withdrawn from the honours list immediately, and 2. For all others responsible for contributing to the financial crisis, to be barred from nomination for honours for a period of at least ten years.”
