Older borrowers are being offered extra help from Leeds Building Society from Monday 5 September when the lender extends the maximum age restriction for mortgage customers.

Leeds will begin lending to borrowers up to the age of 80 at the end of the mortgage term, an increase from its current position of 75 years old. The change applies to residential lending applications only.

Halifax and Nationwide both increased their maximum age restrictions in May. Halifax will now lend to borrowers aged 80 at the end of the term while Nationwide went a step further by upping its restriction to 85.
