Freedom Finance appoints Emma Steeley as CEO
Digital lending marketplace Freedom Finance has hired Emma Steeley (pictured) as chief executive, taking over from Brian Brodie who will move into a newly-created chairman role.

Steeley will start in the role from today and joins from Equifax where she was chief executive of AccountScore for nearly four years and before that held the role of commercial director.

Before that she was director of marketing at Account Technologies and prior to that worked at DTW Associates as managing director.

She has also worked at Ariste, MEM Consumer Finance and Racoon International.

According to Freedom Finance, Steeley will lead the “next stage of the company’s exciting growth ambitions” after fresh investment from Pollen Street Capital and completion of product upgrades.

Brodie has been group CEO at Freedom Finance for just over six years, and before that worked at Virgin Money for around four years in various senior roles. This includes sales and marketing director.

Freedom Finance was founded in 2014, and offers loans, credit cards, car finance and mortgages. On the mortgage side, the firm says it has agreements with over 90 UK lenders offering more than 12,000 products.

Steeley said she was delighted to join the firm at an “exciting, new period of its growth journey” and looked forward to “further strengthening the business’ market position”.

She added: “Brian has led the business superbly over the past six years, navigating it through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic and developing it from a traditional broker to a fully-digitised lending platform that is perfectly-placed to seize the opportunities ahead.

“The embedded finance revolution only increases the relevance of our services in today’s market. I am eager to build on Brian’s hard work and unlock Freedom Finance’s huge potential with his continued support.”

Brodie said: “It has been a privilege to drive forward Freedom Finance’s growth and long-term strategy over the past six years. Following the completion of significant product upgrades and the arrival of further investment, now is the perfect time for new leadership to take the business forward.

“Emma embodies our values of innovation and entrepreneurship and I have no doubt that she will be a great appointment bringing energy and fresh focus. The opportunities that lie ahead of Freedom Finance are hugely exciting and I greatly look forward to supporting Emma as chairman as we continue to drive innovation in the lending sector.”
