Skipton BS, Leeds BS and Landbay among best UK employers
Skipton Building Society, Leeds Building Society and Landbay are among the best companies to work for in the country, with many other mortgage firms making the list.

The UK’s Best Companies league table examines workplace engagement in a survey that looks at employee engagement, charitable activity and employee support, and then ranks companies.

On the big companies list, which is for companies with over 2,000 employees, Skipton Building Society came third.

Best Companies said that the mutual’s flexible working approach, employee engagement measures, high employee retention and internal promotion and bonus scheme were factors in its ranking.

Around 82 per cent of staff said they were happy with the balance between work and home life, and the same amount agreed that the experience they gained at the firm would help them in their future career.

Approximately 93 per cent said they believed they could make a valuable contribution to the success of the organisation.

Leeds BS, Danske Bank and The Openwork Partnership rank high for large companies

On the large list, which is for companies with 200 to 1,999 full-time employees, Leeds Building Society ranked 40th, with Danske Bank coming 94th and The Openwork Partnership coming 136th.

Leeds Building Society employees cited focus on personal growth, charitable activities of the organisation and good management structure as some factors that made the mutual a good place to work.

Danske Bank’s focus on mental wellbeing, charitable activities and strong value sand princioples were singled out in Best Companies assessment.

The Openwork Partnership’s focus on supporting staff and charities were primary factors in its ranking.

OSB Group took the 136th position, and the Cumberland came 139th whilst Vida and UK Finance took the 147th and 175th spot respectively.

OSG Group’s culture that encourages personal growth, training, diversity and inclusion policy, virtual meetings and townhalls were singled out as good business practice.

The Cumberland’s managers’ scheme, organisational purpose of ‘kinder banking’, newsletter to colleagues around progress and new working environment were mentioned in its ranking.

Vida’s clear sense of purpose to support borrowers who are underserved by the high street was discussed in its ranking,

UK Finance’s commitment to a supportive work environment, health and wellbeing policies, social committee and interaction between leadership team and employees boded in the trade body’s favour.

 

Landbay, Darlington BS and Mansfield BS best mid-size companies to work

For mid-size companies with between 75 and 199 full-time employees, Landbay secured the eight spot.

Its working environment, volunteering days, staff having a share in the business and work benefits like unlimited leave, health insurance, a pension scheme, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, staff discounts with local businesses and a rewards system for those who demonstrate the company behaviours were all cited in its ranking.

John Goodall, CEO of Landbay, added: “We have always put workplace culture high on our agenda and I couldn’t be prouder of winning these awards, especially first placed mid-sized firm in London.

“I would like to thank the amazing team of people we have at Landbay for the enormous effort every single person puts into the company. Congratulations to all our colleagues and to Naomi and her HR team for helping to make this possible.”

Darlington Building Society got the 57th spot, whilst Mansfield Building Society and Twenty7Tec took the 93rd and 108th ranking respectively.

Darlington’s strong engagement with community and employees, interaction with leadership team with employee and flexible working bode in its favour.

Mansfield’s supportive culture for customers and staff, charitable trust, community schemes, support for Homes for Ukraine and hybrid working were factors in its ranking.

Twenty7Tec’s workplace culture, diversity and inclusion policy and employee engagement through its ‘house scheme’ were praised.

Marsden Building Society secured 49th place, Phoebus Software took 124th position and Assetz Capital came 198th.

Marsden’s equality and diversity programme, focus on personal growth and supportive work environment were noted in its ranking.

Phoebus’ support for employee physical and mental wellbeing, clear values, diversity and inclusion policy, research and development focus and corporate social responsibility were highlighted by Best Companies.

Assetz Capital’s employee benefits such as flexible working and socials, strong company culture and values were singled out by Best Companies.
