In his role he will also form and implement the broker’s strategy as part of the senior leadership team.
Harrington has worked at the firm since 2003, initially joining as a mortgage and protection adviser before taking on managerial roles in 2013.
These included estate agency mortgage and protection sales manager, new build and estate agency sales and service delivery manager and sales manager for the Bath office.
He was appointed advice director in 2019.
The firm has also appointed Nicola Wildman as chair of risk where she will work with compliance and risk teams across L&C. She is also non-executive director.
Prior to L&C she worked at The Pensions Regulator, DFSA and the FCA.
Sue Brown has also been appointed to the board as a non-executive director.
L&C’s chief executive Alan Young said: “After a successful year in 2022, during which I’m proud to say that L&C helped more than 70,000 customers apply for over £15bn of mortgage lending, we’re already very much planning ahead for this year and beyond.
“I’m therefore pleased to announce Mark’s appointment as our chief operating officer. Mark knows L&C inside out and has proven over the last twenty years what an invaluable asset he is. I know he will play a key part in growing the L&C business and putting in place the exciting plans we have for the future.”
He continued: “I’m also delighted to welcome Sue and Nicola to the L&C team, adding further strength with their vast array of experience that will no doubt be crucial in helping us achieve our ambitions.”
L&C recently appointed Phil Rickards to the part-time role of chairperson of the firm, subject to approval from the Financial Conduct Authority.
