Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter reaches 100 signatories
The Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) has reached its 100-signatory milestone, with broker firm Habito coming on board.
The charter is a voluntary commitment made by participating mortgage firms to “promote and support mental health and wellbeing in the workplace”.
The MIMHC aims to offer a framework for firms to promote good mental health practices, reduce stigma around mental health and offer resources and support to those who may be struggling.
By signing the charter, companies commit to create a workplace culture that prioritises mental health and encourages open communication.
Penny Desbrough, vice president of Habito, said: “Having personally suffered with poor mental health in the past, it remains hugely valuable that we keep the conversation going. It’s important to recognise that everyone is individual, so from a culture perspective, having regular dialogue and supporting our Habitonians is key to making Habito a success.
“Being part of the MIMHC was always on the agenda and I’m delighted that we’re the 100th signatory. I look forward to seeing those numbers continue to grow.”

The MIMHC was launched in 2020 as a non-profit collaboration by Crystal Specialist Finance, Coreco, Chartwell Mortgage Services, Landbay, The Brightstar Group, Knowledge Bank and SimplyBiz Mortgages.
The organisation has launched industry surveys to provide a snapshot of the mortgage industry and set up a fantasy football league in August last year.
The latest survey last year found that nearly half thought their mental wellbeing was satisfactory but work levels were concerning.
A steering group has also been created to oversee ongoing develop and work with co-founders to develop and progress its mental wellbeing support offered.
