Landlords face £188m in tenant immigration check costs

It seems the government is more focused on checking before letting the tenant rent, but how about the people that are already renting that will need checking? Some letting agents have hundreds of tenants, particularly in the student sector, where you will expect five to six tenants per house. Who will be paying for the checks to take place?

From previous experience of renting for the last three years, admin fees can range from £0 to £100. If these checks are going to cause more costs to tenants how much more will these ‘admin fees’ increase? Is it just giving excuse for more exploitation of people who rent?

Broker fraudsters could exploit Help to Buy – police

Watch out for those dodgy professionals. Last one I heard of was a gang of five ran by a former police officer Antony Lowry-Huws who was jailed for seven years in north Wales.

So you can not trust police officers, a qualified financial intermediary, qualified solicitors or complacent lenders. Scary times.

Lenders must warn on possibility of mortgage rate rises – MP

Perhaps lenders should adopt the same approach with interest-only mortgages? They could write to borrowers once a year to remind them that they are not paying their mortgage off. Oh yes, they already do. It’s called a mortgage statement. Borrowers don’t read those either…
