Brokers’ use of packagers on the increase – poll
Brokers are increasingly using packagers to help deal with increasing business levels and a rise in specialist lending.

The latest Mortgage Solutions People’s Poll asked brokers whether their use of packagers had grown in the last year with 41% responding it had increased.

Although 35% said they had seen a slight increase in the use of packagers just 6% said they were dealing with ‘significantly more’ cases in this way.

Pink is among those looking to capitalise on the packaging boom and earlier this month announced the relaunch of its packaging arm. Elsewhere Dudley Building Society has appointed seven firms to manage its distribution through brokers.

“While packagers were almost wiped out in the credit crunch there appears to be an ever increasing demand for them from both brokers and lenders at the moment,” David Copland, director of mortgage services at LSL, wrote in a blog for Mortgage Solutions.

“As more niche mortgages come back to market, some brokers also feel the need for some more specialist help with researching and sourcing mortgages; packagers’ specialist knowledge compliments the systemised approach of the sourcing systems.”

However, a third of brokers said their use of packagers was flat compared to this point last year while more than a quarter of respondents (26%) said they were using packagers less than previously.
