Part-timers should club together – Star Letter 26/06/2015
Each week Mortgage Solutions picks the most opinionated or thoughtful reader contribution from our article comments and letters to the editor.

This week’s award goes to:

Part-time brokers should not pay extra network fees say brokers

Being an independent/whole of market broker is not a hobby and large brokerages should not be subsidising them.

The research time for each case is greater than ever and the economies of scale can only be achieved by undertaking enough business from a broad spectrum of lenders.

Any part-time broker should be under greater scrutiny to make sure they are looking across their entire scope for each case and not simply using the same three to six lenders.

Though we are DA, I suspect many larger firms may object that smaller firms require the same level of resource from their network but pay less money proportionally.

In the South East, brokers should be doing 10 cases per month and so a greater number may be needed in other areas of the country.

Part-time brokers may be better off banding together and perhaps work as broker and paraplanner together.
