Budget 2013: Government in talks over Funding for Lending extension
Chancellor George Osborne has announced that the government is in discussions with the Bank of England regarding an extension to the Funding for Lending Scheme.

An extension to the successful scheme has widely been predicted and Osborne confirmed in his speech today that the Bank of England was being consulted.

He said in his speech: “We are now actively considering with the Bank of England whether there are potential extensions to the successful Funding for Lending Scheme that will boost lending still further.”

It is thought that the government is keen to see more funds from the scheme diverted to small businesses. This could involve non-banks being given access to the programme for the first time.
