Landlord fined £16,000 over ‘hazardous’ property
A landlord has been hit with a £16,000 financial penalty after they were found to be letting out a property containing numerous hazards to the tenants.

The property, in Cromer, North Norfolk, was visited by the local council’s environmental protection team after tenants raised concerns over the living conditions. They found a host of hazards within the property, including excess cold and electrical disrepair.

The landlord was initially issued with an improvement notice, which required remedial works to be carried out within a specific timeframe. When the landlord failed to do so, they were then issued with the fine.

The council emphasised that it would act whenever necessary to protect tenants from hazardous living conditions.

Tim Adams, leader of the council, commented: “If you are a private landlord, it is your responsibility to make sure that the property you are letting out is safe for tenants and is in good condition as to not present a hazard to the health of those tenants.

“I am pleased that the Residential Property Tribunal has upheld the financial penalty notice and that the landlord has been held accountable to their privately rented property.”
