HSBC to host second emerging talent event to celebrate rising star brokers
HSBC will host fifty talented young mortgage brokers at its Canary Wharf headquarters this week, to give them a “bank’s-eye view” of the mortgage market.

The inaugural event was held last year, with 15 brokers attending at the Savoy in London.

The brokers are nominated by their firms from a selection of the 1,000 broker companies registered to HSBC’s intermediary channel.

According to HSBC, those that are nominated have “shown an aptitude for great customer care and putting the customer at the heart of everything they do, alongside a real passion to succeed”.

The agenda for the event, which will take place this Thursday, will have six sessions covering a wide range of topics.

This includes insight from HSBC’s head of intermediary mortgages Chris Pearson (pictured), HSBC’s head of sales Richard Beardshaw sharing thoughts on how young brokers can deliver exceptional customer service and an examination of how mortgage rates are set by Andrew Matson, the bank’s interim head of buying a home.

There will also be an economic update from HSBC’s senior economist Liz Martins and a session on the future of retrofitting from Michaela Wright, the bank’s head of corporate sustainability.

Bianca Miller-Cole, business speaker and former Apprentice candidate, will give a talk on personal branding.

Pearson said that younger brokers were entering the sector now and would be the “ones to shape it and take it forward”.

He continued: “Our emerging talent event recognises the customer-focused start they have made to their career and will hopefully provide them with a real insight into different elements of the mortgage business that isn’t typically seen by brokers.

Top Gun for mortgage brokers

Pearson said: “When we held the inaugural event last year, one of the brokers told me it seemed like ‘Top Gun for brokers’. Like those fighter pilots, being a mortgage broker is an important job. Many people are relying on you to provide the help they need to turn their home-buying dreams into reality.”

Pearson continued: “While I am sure some of the brokers we will reach dizzying heights in their career, enhancing their understanding of our role in the process will hopefully prove beneficial.

“We have been developing CPD-accredited learning sessions for brokers to help with their ongoing development. I am extremely proud that the emerging talent is CPD-accredited too and that we are able to help support the future of the broker network in a number of different ways, supporting the development of the skills and knowledge of the future of our broker network.”
