Market Watch: Social housing – Will private landlords flee the sector?
Research by Upad.co.uk suggests introducing caps to the housing benefit of £250 per week for a one-bed flat and £400 per week for a four-bed house could send shock waves through the social rented sector. This is likely to affect 90% of social housing landlords in the South East and 40% across the country, while a third of social tenants could be made homeless. Will the government move turn thousands of private landlords away from renting to social tenants?
