Sants to join British Bankers’ Association board
Former Financial Services Authority CEO Sir Hector Sants is to join the board of the British Bankers’ Association (BBA) lobbying group, according to reports.

Sants, (pictured) who joined Barclays earlier this year as head of compliance and was knighted in the New Year honours list, will attend his first BBA board meeting this autumn, Sky News reports.

He replaces his colleague Matt Hammerstein as the bank’s BBA representative, the latter now moving to a new role within Barclays’ business, according to the news agency.

The BBA’s forthcoming meeting will be its first since the announcement that is it to hand over responsibility for administering LIBOR to US operator NYSE Euronext in 2014.

Barclays itself was the first bank to be fined for LIBOR manipulation last summer when US and UK regulators levied a collective £291m penalty.

Sants’ five years as FSA CEO saw him act as a figurehead for an organisation that attracted severe criticism for its handling of the financial crisis.

He also oversaw the overhaul of the retail financial services model ahead of RDR implementation.

Sants stepped down from the FSA in June 2012 ahead of the conversion to a ‘twin peaks’ regulatory model.
